He is Marty Luquet, the longtime baseball coach. She is Lori Lyons, the Hall of Fame River Parishes sportswriter. â€‹We've been married for 30 years and we've just about seen it all.

Now that we're retired, we have some time to talk about it all. Come see what we have to say about River Parishes sports, the great games, the legendary players and coaches, and the unforgettable characters.

Episode 1 is now available!

Lori and Marty introduce each other, explain how we got here and preview Week One of high school football in the River Parishes. 

Episode 2: We talk about the first week of football in the River Parishes, with an interview with Riverside Academy QB Brock Bourgeous about that crazy game against Terrebonne; how Tulane was robbed vs. Kansas State; the games that should have been played this week; what it was like riding out a Category One hurricane together, and Lori tries to remember all of the great players and coaches she covered during her long career as a sports writer. See if YOU are mentioned!

Episode 3: We talk about the second week of the football season -- which was mostly wiped out by Hurricane Francine -- what's coming in Week Three. We also discuss the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 and talk inductee Joe Scheuermann, the legendary baseball coach at Delgado. 

Episode 4: Lori and Coach Marty catch up on all the football action in the River Parishes and preview this week's games. Then they talk to Destrehan head football coach Marcus Scott about this week's BIG GAME against East St. John.

Episode 5: Catch up on all the River Parishes football action and a fun interview with St.Charles Catholic head football and head baseball coach Wayne Stein. Be sure to stay to the end....

Episode 6: Lori and Coach Marty talk to St. Martin's head coach Kevin Dizer about this week's game against Riverside with the two best RBs in the city facing off. Also, Marty talks about baseball! 

Episode 7 We talk to Riverside Academy head coach Lee Roussel about last week's WILD win over St. Martin's (76 points???) and to Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Doug Ireland -- who moonlights as a sports writer -- about the two WILD Shreveport games he covered in recent weeks. 69-68 and 77-76 in OT.

Episode 8: Marty and Lori catch up on all the River Parishes football action and Coach Mojo previews the World Series between his two favorite teams, the Dodgers and the Yankees! There's also a couple of Halloween treats in here for you. Be sure to stay to the end!

Episode 9: It's Hahnville-Destrehan Week! ! We talk to Hahnville coach Greg Boyne and Destrehan coach Marcus Scott about this week's BIG GAME, and we chat with Sports Kid Daniel Luquet, who played and coached from both sidelines.

Episode 10:We wrap up Week 10 of the prep football season, update River Parishes volleyball and talk to Lutcher head football coach Dwain Jenkins about his team's undefeated season and what it's like coaching your own kid.

About Us

Marty Luquet

Marty began his 27-year coaching career at  Kennedy High School in 1980. He spent 10 years at O. Perry Walker where the Chargers were district champs every year from 1983-1991 and appeared in the State Tournament in 1986.  The 1986 team was the first New Orleans public school to win a 1st District American Legion championship in 34 years and the last one to do it. In 2001 he coached at St. James, then spent the next 14 seasons at Destrehan High School. His Wildcats were 286-125 with 14 playoff appearances, two Class 5A state championship games and 6 state tournament appearances.  His 2004 team finished 33-2 and was ranked No. 2 in the nation.  He was named the Class 5A Coach of the Year three times and the All-Metro Coach of the Year twice.  He was selected as the coach of the East team in 2004 Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star game. He coached the  Ascension Parish-based Gauthier Amedee American Legion team, to the Louisiana state championship in 2018 and 2020, advancing to the semifinals of the American Legion World Series in 2018. 
In 2020 he became the assistant coach at Riverside Academy and took over as head coach in 2021, leading the Rebels to the
District 9-1A championship and a trip to the playoffs. In 2024 he got his 500th career win.

 

Lori Lyons

A native of Houma, Lori spent 26 years with The Times-Picayune sports department, 21 of those years covering sports in the River Parishes.  After the newspaper restructuring in 2012, she worked as a freelancer for several outlets and spent two years as the Sports Editor at L'Observateur. Lori won numerous awards for her writing including the LSWA Prep Writer of the Year Award twice. She was honored by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association as its Prep Writer of the Year in 2008 and won the LSWA’s prestigious Mac Russo Award that year for contributing to the ideals and progress of the organization. She served as president of the LSWA from 2012-2014, helping to oversee the opening of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches. She is a longstanding member of the LSHOF selection committee and served on the Allstate Sugar Bowl Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame selection committee. In 2023 Lori received the inaugural John Biguenet Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Loyola University Department of English. She received the LSWA Distinguished Service Award and was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. She is the author of the memoir "Adopting in America: The Diary of a Mom in Waiting," the account of the couple's journey to adopt their youngest daughter. Lori continues to write, including for the Baton Rouge Rougarou TCL baseball team and will write for GeauxPreps this fall. She also is working on her career memoir.
